AIIB Venture Capital Showcase for Start-ups in Green and/or Technology-enabled Infrastructure

The Venture Capital Showcase for Start-ups in Green and/or Technology-enabled Infrastructure is one of the side events of the 2023 Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Annual Meeting at Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt on September 25, 2023.

It will provide entrepreneurs an opportunity to obtain feedback on their start-up business plan from AIIB senior investment professionals and other industry leaders.

Who may participate?

Entrepreneurs developing a business focused on early stage (Pre-series A or Series A/B) innovations in green and/or technology-enabled infrastructure and allied sectors in one of AIIB Members may register for the session.

How will the Showcase be conducted?

All submissions will be reviewed by AIIB.

The top three shortlisted submissions will be invited to present their proposal in person to a panel of judges during the Venture Capital Showcase in Sharm El Sheikh. AIIB will cover the costs for one member from the team to present the proposal in person during the Venture Capital Showcase at the AIIB Annual Meeting in Sharm El Sheikh.

The top ten proposals will be among the first companies to be included in AIIB’s Infratech Platform. This will give entrepreneurs an opportunity to showcase their business idea to a global audience.

How do I participate?

Applicants should submit a business plan that involves innovations in green and/or technology-enabled infrastructure and allied sectors in one of AIIB’s Members. The proposal should be in English and must be less than 15 pages in PowerPoint format (saved as a PDF). The PDF file should be named in the format “Name” (e.g., “Business Proposal XZY”).

The proposal should include:

The issue or challenge that is being addressed, which involves green and/or technology-enabled infrastructure or allied sectors
A description of how the innovation will address the issue or challenge
The social impact of the innovation
How the business will support or develop green and/or technology-enabled infrastructure
The track record of the team
A simple term sheet

The proposal should also indicate in their email whether the applicants are willing to present their proposal in person to a wide audience during the session of the Venture Capital Showcase at the AIIB Annual Meeting.

Submit the proposal to fundshowcase@aiib.org. Deadline for submissions is on 11:59 p.m., August 15, 2023, Beijing Time.

What are the selection criteria?

All proposals will be reviewed against the following criteria:

Alignment with AIIB’s thematic priorities— green infrastructure, connectivity and regional cooperation, technology-enabled infrastructure, and private capital mobilization.
Alignment with AIIB’s sectoral strategies: energy, transport, water, urban, digital infrastructure and other productive sectors.
Demonstrable economic benefits to the local community and region, preferably to infrastructure as well.
Sound business case for investors.
Compliant with AIIB’s Environmental and Social Framework and standards of the country where the proposed project is to be developed.
