POLICY ON PUBLIC INFORMATION
INTRODUCTION
Our Articles of Agreement, the legal basis for our existence, requires AIIB to promote transparency in its operations through a policy on the disclosure of informationFor purposes of the PPI, information means all information held by AIIB that can be read and communicated physically and electronically in any form or format.. On Sep. 27, 2018, AIIB’s Board of Directors approved the Policy on Public Information (PPI) as the embodiment of that commitment. How the PPI Was Developed

- January
- AIIB’s Board of Directors adopted the Public Information Interim Policy (PIIP), initiating the framework for AIIB’s current public information disclosure.
- 2017
- June
- AIIB’s Board of Directors’ Committee on Policy and Strategy approved the review of the PIIP and adoption of a new policy in the future.
- August
- The first directive (Public Information Requests Processing Directive) to accompany the PIIP was made public, marking the beginning of AIIB’s efforts to track and monitor its ability to respond to informationFor purposes of the PPI, information means all information held by AIIB that can be read and communicated physically and electronically in any form or format. requests.
- October
- A benchmarking exercise was conducted with six multilateral development banks (MDBs) to benefit from their experience (African Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank, Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank). AIIB staff also participated in the International Financial Institution Meeting on Information Disclosure and Stakeholder Engagement in Greece.

The Background Paper on the Public Information Interim Policy Review provides additional information regarding how the draft Policy was developed.
- January to March
- Public consultations on the PPI began January 22 and ended on March 16. Comments were received via letter, email, audio/video and face-to-face consultations. A total of 116 people from government agencies, banking sectors, business communities, project implementation agencies, civil society organizations (CSOs)/nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs), MDBs and academia participated. A summary of comments from public consultation can be found here.
