Beijing, December 9, 2024 — Having served the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) since 2023 as Managing Director (MD) of the Complaints-resolution, Evaluation and Integrity Unit (CEIU), I am announcing my resignation with a heavy heart. My tenure will end on December 31. It gives me great pride to share that I will be pursuing the prospects of the highest public office in Costa Rica.
I joined AIIB with a passion to contribute to this young and promising multilateral development bank. Looking back, I believe that this was an excellent decision. I am very grateful to AIIB’s Board of Directors (the Board) for providing me with all the support to fulfill my duties as MD CEIU. I am also very thankful to President Jin Liqun, who always respected the independence of CEIU as an oversight unit and always carefully listened to my candid views about AIIB’s accountability and learning – the dual mandates of CEIU.
I am deeply touched by what AIIB has achieved over a short period of time. This is a direct result of President Jin’s leadership, the commitment of Senior Management, and the hard work of AIIB staff. AIIB has been able to attract some of the best professionals to build an institution that will continue to play an important role in international development in the decades to come.
I want to specifically highlight the support that I received from my team in CEIU. I am delighted to note that we achieved a lot during my relatively short time at AIIB, which would not have been possible without the relentless efforts of my incredible team. We have revitalized the team, fully activated all three functions while applying high standards, and provided greater clarity, focus and strategic direction to CEIU. My team’s unwavering dedication, hard work and collaborative spirit have been the driving force behind our many achievements during this time. Each of my team members played a crucial role in our collective success, and their contributions have not gone unnoticed.
I am also grateful to the counterparts of CEIU functions in peer institutions. We have built excellent partnerships and collaborated on many issues. These partnerships are invaluable assets of CEIU that will continue to serve us in the years to come, and I am confident that CEIU team will build on these strong foundations. I will also highlight CEIU’s high-quality engagements with AIIB Members and clients, civil society organizations and all other external stakeholders who were part of my unforgettable experience at AIIB.
As I move on to the next chapter of my journey, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my family for their support and understanding throughout this period. Their encouragement and love have been my anchor throughout my career.
Day-to-day work of CEIU will continue as planned. Ms. Hwee Tin Kng (currently the Chief Internal Audit Officer at AIIB) has been appointed as Acting Managing Director of CEIU to ensure continuity in delivering the unit’s goals as laid out in CEIU’s Terms of Reference and recently issued Strategic Directions Paper endorsed by the Board.
I wish AIIB and CEIU team abundant success.
Warm regards,
Marvin Taylor-Dormond
