Gregory Liu
Director General, Financial Institutions and Funds Clients Department, Global
Gregory Liu is Director General of the Financial Institutions and Fund Clients, Global (FIF). He is responsible for building up AIIB’s institutional capacity of mobilizing private capital and investing in equity by expanding the Bank’s client relationships among financial institutions, private equity and debt funds, and asset aggregation vehicles on global basis. Prior to this role, Liu was Director General of Infrastructure Investment Department in Investment Operations (Region 2). As a senior banker with extensive private sector experience, he joined AIIB in February 2017 and has built and directed strong teams which won a series of awards in infrastructure financing for the Bank. Prior to joining AIIB, Liu spent 10 years in Singapore with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) in various capacities, including Head of Export & Agency Finance, Head of Global LNG and Head of North East Asia in its Investment Banking Asia Department. At SMBC, Liu advised a variety of clients from different continents to raise in excess of USD6 billion of debt for a series of award-winning energy or energy infrastructure projects. Before relocating to Asia in 2008, Liu was a Director at Fitch Ratings in London, covering regulated utilities in 2007. From 1997 to 2007, he worked at the Capital Markets of Dresdner Kleinwort in Frankfurt and London. Liu holds a Master of Science in Information Systems from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Liu is from the United Kingdom.
