Hua Tian, as Director General and Assistant Corporate Secretary, supports the Vice President and Corporate Secretary in communications between governors, Board members, and management, safeguarding the integrity of the Bank’s multilateral governance and managing the operations of the Corporate Secretariat to ensure its efficient and effective functioning. She also leads and supervises the operation of the Board of Governors and the Board of Directors, as well as the development, design, and implementation of efforts to proactively engage shareholders, and the planning and organization of the Annual Meetings of the Bank. Tian joined AIIB in 2016, first as a Senior Secretariat Officer and then as Manager of Shareholder Relations with the Corporate Secretariat. Before that, she served in various capacities with the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Commerce of China, including as a Director of the International Financial Cooperation Department. She also worked for many years as a diplomat in the Economic and Trade Section of the Chinese Embassies to South Africa and Zimbabwe. She has extensive experience in trade and economics, diplomacy, stakeholder management, governance and institution building. Tian has MAs in both English Linguistics and Economics from Nankai University, an MPA from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in World Economics from Nankai University. Tian is from the People’s Republic of China.
